Hemphill quarterback Omarion Smith has been named the Ford Built Tough Player of the Week for class 3-A in week 3 of the 2021 Texas high school football season..

The junior lead the Hemphill Hornets to a 53-26 win across cross-county rival West Sabine in the “Pine Cone Bowl”, a yearly get-together between Hemphill and West Sabine since 1968. Overall, Hemphill leads the series 27-15.

Amazingly, this year is Smith’s first time to ever play quarterback, but on Friday night it appeared that he had been doing it all of his life.

Smith was 10 for 13 in passing with 223 yards through the air resulting in three touchdowns.

A dual threat quarterback, Smith carried the ball 13 times for 200 yards and scored two TD’s himself.

Hemphill Head Coach Tod Stark said of Smith, “This is really the first year he has taken any snaps at quarterback. He played receiver and defensive back for us last year. As the season goes along, if he stays healthy, he’s going to be someone to really pay attention to.”
