Lydia Nikodem 92 of Jasper, Texas died on Sept. 6, 2019. She was born on April 28, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. Where she and her husband owned and operated a printing shop.

Lydia is survived by her son, John (Nik) Nikodem and wife TJ of Jasper, daughters, Janice Barlow and husband, Stephen of Richaland, Washington, Becky Basak and husband, Paul of Jasper and Kerry Merola and husband, Chuck of Woodridge, Illinois, grandchildren, Kristen Hornsby, Chantelle and husband, John Hamilton, Paul and wife, Cheryl Basak Jr., Heather and husband, Michael Reed and Jessica Mata, great grandchildren, Tyler Basak and wife, Morgan, Emily Hamilton, Erin Hamilton, Ella Hamilton, Olivia Hornsby, Nicholas Basak, Peyton Basak, Elijah Mata, Charlie Basak and Eliana Hamilton and great grandchildren, Lanie Basak and Tanner Basak.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Nikodem, parents, Martin and Sur Barchar, sisters, Sue Plate and Betty Crement and great granddaughter, Chloe Piper Reed.

Visitation will be on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jasper with burial following at West Oaks Cemetery in Jasper. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton.
