“Oh heart, if one should say to you that the soul perishes like the body, answer that the flower withers, but the seed remains.” - Khalil Gibran.

Kady Leighanne Robertson Waller, age 33, passed away on May 8, 2021, surrounded by her family and friends. Kady valiantly battled a rare cancer, ocular melanoma, for five years before succumbing to the disease.

Born in Shiloh, Illinois in 1987, Kady lived a life devoted first and foremost to her children. A life-long learner, Kady was a bibliophile, never seen without a book, or three, who was working towards the dream of completing her degree while in cancer treatment. Kady loved celebrating her family’s individual passions and interests, always curating the perfect themed birthday for her children, or gifts for her supportive husband.

Kady had a magical thirst for life that inspired all around her. She was an avid knitter, yoga practitioner, amateur vegan chef and baker who created communities of loving people wherever she went. Kady also had a heart for people on the margins, dedicating her time to a number of community groups and creating a loving life welcoming to all. She will be missed deeply by the many people her life touched.

Kady is survived by her loving husband Thomas Waller, her four children Gideon Robertson, Rett Robertson, Sophia Herron, and Leath Waller, and her step-daughters Kalli Waller and Madison Fultz; her mother Melanie Sue Robertson; maternal grandmother Thelma Robertson; aunt Belinda Morgan; uncle Eddie Robertson; paternal grandparents Phyllis and Joe Ortega; brother Cameron Ortega; mother-in-law and father-in-law James and Christine Waller, special cousin Cookie DeLeon and many other cousins and close friends especially the Mom’s Squad members. Kady was preceded in death by her father Joey Ortega and maternal grandfather LaVere Cooley Robertson.
