Edgar “Cat” Watson Mitchell, Jr. 93, of Woodville, passed away, Monday, November 16, 2020 at Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 23, 2020 at 12:00 noon until service time at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial to follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Woodville. Officiating will be Brother Brandon Smith. Pallbearers will be Robert Allen, Robert Norton, Wayne Brunner, Charles Barns, Bryan Norton and Dale Welch. Honorary Pallbearer will be Donnie Todd.
Edgar was born April 25, 1927 to Edgar & Artie Mitchell, Sr. in Woodville, Texas. He served in WWII under the United States Navy. He was a lifelong resident of Woodville and a member of Shady Grove Assembly of God. He was known as the “Mayor” of Shady Grove Community where he enjoyed hunting with his dogs and working his cows. Edgar loved playing practical jokes on his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his late wife, Louise Mitchell; parents, Edgar & Artie Mitchell, Sr.; brother, Oliver Mitchell and sisters, Edna Lee & J.C. Connell.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Sandra Mitchell of Woodville; daughters, Ruth Ann Gilchrist & husband Pat of Beaumont, TX, Sandra Thornton of Buna, Cecila Todd & husband Donnie of Elmer, LA and Martha Hall & husband Curtis of Port Neches, TX; 1 step-son; 4 step-daughters; brother, Sherman Mitchell & wife Sybil of Woodville; 39 grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren.
