On October 10, 2021, Leo Ray (Hawkeye) Stanley passed away peacefully of natural causes in his residence at The Heritage in Tomball, Texas.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 16, beginning at 1:00 pm at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, followed by his Home-Going service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow immediately at Magnolia Springs Cemetery.

Leo was born in Whitehouse, Texas on April 12, 1927, to Lieuwillie and Jack Stanley, the 5th of 7 children. He was a graduate of John Tyler High School and of Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from East Texas State College in Commerce, Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the spring of 1946, and served as a corpsman until he was honorably discharged when World War II ended. He joined the Naval Reserve following the end of the war, and was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He then rejoined the Naval Reserve and continued to serve in the reserve until he retired in 1985, having achieved the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.

Leo married Mary Ruth Wilbanks of Tyler, Texas in April of 1947.

He worked as an oil and gas accountant for many years, and was one of the first computer programmers for Pennzoil.

He and his wife, Mary, were active as volunteers with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for many years. Leo was also very active in his church and served as a deacon for over 30 years.

Leo and his wife moved to Kirbyville, Texas in 1997, and had recently moved to Tomball, Texas.

Leo is survived by his wife of 74 years, mary Ruth Stanley; his three daughters, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Massart and her husband, Paul Smith (Smitty) Massart of Kirbyville, Texas, Lucy Karen Ray and her significant other Henery (Rick) Rosales of Houston, Texas, and Karol Rae Wood and her husband Jeff Wood of Plantersville, Texas; his grandchildren, Caitlin Anne Massart and her husband Anibar (Ani) Bonilla of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christian David (Chris) Ray and his wife Rebecca (Becky) Ray of Glenham, New York, Chessica King of College Station, Texas, Jeffery Wood of Plantersville, Texas; great grandchildren, Isabelle Ray, Lily Ray, Jacob Dietrich, Ava King, J.J. Wood, Parker Wood, and Grace Wood.

He is also survived by his brother Roy Lacey Stanley of Tyler, Texas and sister Alice Ruth Badsgard of Whittier, California, their families and numerous extended family members.

The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice of Jasper, Texas and Traditions Hospice of Tomball, Texas as well as loving friends and neighbors who cared for him.
