Eugene Call (Gene) Cannon, 98, of Jasper, TX passed away Monday, October 11, 2021 at his residence. Family and friends will celebrate his life on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11am at the First Baptist Church, 314 Main Street, Jasper, Texas, with visitation preceding the service from 10am to the beginning of the service.

Born in Jasper, TX on June 16, 1923, to Scott Newman Cannon and Anne Elizabeth Adams Cannon, Gene was a life-long Jasper resident. On June 30, 1950, he married Mickey Cannon.

His life was devoted to service and generosity. He worked in finance and accounting at several banks, Kurth Lumber Company and Temple-Eastex (forestry division). He was an active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Jasper. He served his country in the US Navy on active duty from January 1943 to April 1946 and on reserve duty from April 1946 to August 1953 achieving the highest rank of Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class. He served his community as a member of the DeWitt Clinton Lodge #29 for 67 years, was a volunteer with the Jasper Fire Department for 30 years, volunteered with the Jasper County Clerk’s Office for many years, and was instrumental in maintaining records and grounds of the Jasper City Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his doting wife, Mickey, his parents Scott and Anne Cannon, a son Mark McGuire Cannon, his brother Scott Newman Cannon II, his sister Betsy Jacobsen and granddaughter Angie Brodnax. He is survived by a son Scott Newman Cannon III and partner Chris Lester, daughter-in-law Karen Cannon, grandchildren John Mark Collins and wife Abby, Scott Cannon IV, Colin Cannon and wife Julianne, Heather Pullen, Mac Cannon and wife Meagan as well as 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to First Baptist Church, 314 N Main Street, Jasper, TX 75951.
