Mr. Elzie Lee Ward was born on March 8, 1961 to Elzie Ward Jr. and Clotell Ward in Pineland, Texas who proceeded him in death. Elzie attended West Sabine High School and graduated in 1980. He attended Angelina College with a Degree in Architect. Elzie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church, which later joined Pinegrove to become Goodwill Baptist Church. After college, Elzie was employed at Concor for many years. Elzie then became employed with Higman Marine and later Kirby Inland Marine where he moved up in rank as a tugboat captain until his death. Elzie enjoyed being a DJ and was referred to as “DJ Smooth”. He also enjoyed riding his bike. He was a member of a Biker Club where he enjoyed bike rallies and exploring new roadways. Elzie relished the time spent with his family and friends. He departed this life on January 12, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Alecia Heath(D’Andrae) of Houston, TX, Brittany Esther(Deon) of Houston, TX, Joshua Ward of Katy, TX, and Jordan Ward of Katy, TX; seven grandchildren; one brother: Eddie Ward(Tina) of College Station, TX; Five Sisters: Claudette Ward of Pineland, TX(who proceeded him in death), Donna Ward of Tyler, TX, Dorothy Wallace(Richard) of Dallas, TX, Sandra Ward of Pineland, TX, and Elaine Lacey(Bobby) of Pineland, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Wake service will be Friday, January 17, 2020, at 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Coleman’s Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Goodwill Baptist Church in Pineland, TX. Interment will follow at the Goodwill Cemetery in Pineland, TX under the direction of Coleman’s Mortuary in Jasper.
