In loving memorial. Anita Carol Oxley Brinkley, born 6/16/1952, oldest daughter of Earline Clark Oxley and Willard Lee Oxley passed away August 4, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital In Beaumont, Texas.
Anita earned her BS in Special Education from Stephen F. Austin University In 1974 and then accepted employment at Newton Independent School District where she taught Special Ed
and math at both the Junior High and High School for 31 years. She helped all her students to excel academically, giving them the opportunity to graduate. She loved all her students and made a difference in their lives.
She sponsored the cheerleaders and other school organizations and touched many lives through her gift for organizing graduations, wedding showers and County Fair projects.
She retired from Newton ISD in 2005
Anita collected cardinals, a sign from God.
Anita was married to Doug Brinkley In 2002 and managed their farm while Doug worked overseas in oilfield operations in Dubai, Australia, and Indonesia. She was one of the primary caregivers for Doug’s parents in their golden years, Pastor Alfred and Terri Brinkley. Anita’s best friend was Gayle Dorsey.
Anita was greatly generous with all she had, giving to others, not expecting anything in return. She loved life, QVC, Home Shopping Network, a good fish fry and made a mouth watering beef brisket. Her homemade biscuits were beyond compare. She named every one of their baby calves, cataloging and inventorying the farm animals.
Anita is survived by her loving husband, Doug Brinkley of Newton, Texas, two sisters, Kathy Lynn Oxley Griffith of Mt, Carmel, Illinois, and Susan Ann Oxley Phillips (James) of Laurel Fork, Virginia, two nieces, Stacy Selby (Reid) of Sorrento, Florida and Kimberly Phillips of Austinsville, Virginia, two nephews, Clayton Paschke of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Trenton Wood (Freya) Beaverton, Oregon, and four great-nieces, Holly, Lainie, Carly, and Evie.
Reverend John Ebarb will be officiating Anita’s funeral services.
Pallbearers are: Frank Godeaux Jr., Jordan Godeaux, Robert Godeaux, and Casie Godeaux.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Amburn, Ed Godeaux, Justin Godeaux, and Skyler Godeaux.
Anita was loved by all her family, friends, and community. She is forever in our hearts and now with the Lord. She will be greatly missed.
Smith Funeral Home,103 Court Street, Newton, Texas 75966, 409-379-5041 will be directing the services, visitation is Friday August 10, 2019 from 6-8 pm with Funeral Services on Saturday August 11, 2019, at 10 am. Graveside services will follow at Newton City Cemetery, Newton, Texas.
