A private service and burial, for the Celebration of Jill Rose’s Life, was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home. Jill went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 20, 2020. She was born February 1, 1951, shortly after her twin brother Jack, whom she says she was kicking out of the way. They were adopted by the wonderful Max and Onnie Cohn, who ran the photography shop in downtown Jasper, at 22 months old.
Jill was a life-long resident of Jasper. She graduated Jasper High School in 1969 and earned her RN Nursing Degree from Angelina College in 1971. In June of 1971 she married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Rose. They had two daughters, Robin and Randi. She began her career at Jasper ISD as a school nurse in 1973 and remained there until she retired in 2009. She was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church.
Jill loved life and had many special talents. She was an amazing seamstress and could spend hours at her sewing machine. In addition to quilts and the countless number of Christmas stockings she made each year, she would travel at the drop of a hat to sew a special dress for her daughters or costumes for their school productions. Jill was a lover of music who played piano throughout her life. She even started singing karaoke with her daughters. She loved to travel and see new places. Many cherished memories were made on the road with her family. However, her favorite activity for the last 9 years was spending quality time with her grandson Landon, who made her life complete.
Jill is survived by her devoted husband Jimmy of 49 years; her loving daughters Robin and Randi, and her grandson Landon (whom she adored above all others).
She is also survived by her twin brother Jack Cohn and wife Shirley; brother Robert Cousins and wife Sheila; sisters Deanne Dorward and husband Robert, Ruby Bull and husband Len; Donna Cabrera, and Barb Mathews and husband Bob; her uncle Rusty Cohn and wife Tan; her Aunt Sadie Cohn; her sister-in-law Betty Jones and husband Mike; Jennifer Parr, a few cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends, all of who filled her life with love and joy.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Onnie Cohn.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
