Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles says that his deputies are working closely with state troopers following a pre-dawn Wednesday morning auto-pedestrian hit and run, which left a Newton man dead.
Later on Wednesday, Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis released a report which said that the incident occurred at about 4:30 on Farm to Market Road 363 just east of Highway 87 in the Bleakwood Community.
According to Davis, Trooper Shana Neal filed a report stating that at about 3:00 Wednesday morning, a witness was driving on FM 363 and saw the victim walking on or near the highway. Davis said when the witness was making a return trip on the same stretch of roadway, they discovered the victim lying on the highway and called 911.
The pedestrian, identified as 57-year-old Robert Earl Medley, of Newton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Justice of the Peace Connie Smith.
Davis said the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Newton County Sheriff’s Department is asking for any information from the public about the driver or vehicle that hit and killed the man.
