The Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry says a Beauregard Parish Couple have been arrested and charged with theft after they were accused of stealing timber valued at just over $36,000.00 in Vernon Parish.

State agents have arrested Ricky Cooley, Sr., 51, and Priscilla Cooley, 48, both of DeRidder, and they were later released from the Vernon Parish Jail under $25,000.00 bonds on each.

According to state officials, in January of 2019 the couple was hired by a landowner to harvest timber on a 50 acre tract of land.

However, state investigators say they discovered that the couple concealed thirty-four additional loads of timber that they were not authorized to take, and they did not make payment for the timber to the landowner.
