Daily News and More is reporting that the Sabine County Grand Jury has indicted five men, one of whom has a Jasper address, in relation to an alleged illegal gambling operation in Bronson.

The case began in late February when Sabine County deputies executed a search warrant at a game room on U.S. Highway 96 in Bronson and seized numerous video eight-liner game machines, along with the building itself.

Sheriff Tom Maddox noted at the time that the search warrant followed a month-long undercover investigation.

Those named in the indictments were:

~ Sohail Moiz, 34, of Jasper – charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering

~ Karim Sunny Lakhani,23, of Fort Worth – charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering

~ Karim Jiwabhai Noorani, 58, of Sugarland – charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering

~ Zubar Ali, 28, of Nacogdoches – charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering

~ Mohammed Abdul Moin, 46, of Nacogdoches – charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering

An indictment by the Grand Jury does not mean that the person named in the indictment is guilty of a crime. Instead, it only indicates that Grand Jurors felt that enough evidence existed to merit a trial.
