The Newton Independent School District has announced that two students and one staff member have tested positive for Coronavirus. According to statements issued by the district, one middle school student and one high school student tested positive, as well as a staff member, but that person had not been at the school or around students in the past week.

The statement from the district said that certain students and staff members who had contact with those with the virus have been notified to quarantine, and also they have cleaned and sanitized all school rooms.

According to a parent, those in quarantine include his son and all other members of the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams.

The Superintendent’s office has confirmed that the Newton football playoff game is still on. Newton will face Omaha Pewitt on Friday night at 7:30 in Henderson in the area round of the 3-A Division II Texas High School Football Playoffs.

The most up-to-date Coronavirus numbers from the State of Texas are from Friday, November 20th and as of that date they showed Newton County with only 2 active cases after a total of 195 have tested positive, 177 have recovered, and 16 have died. However, as of that date there were 6 tests pending results.
