A Jasper man says he let a woman - who he didn’t know – stay at his house, and he woke up the next morning to discover that she, his debit card, and the money in his bank account were gone.

A Jasper Police report said that Roy Smith, who lives on Hemphill Street, told officers on Monday that the woman knocked on his door, told him that a man assaulted her, and that the two of them had a mutual friend. So, he let her in.

The report went on to say that Smith took her to a store and made a purchase, and that’s where he thinks that she saw his debit card pin number.

The report said the next morning he awoke to find her and his debit card were gone, and he then discovered that the card had been used at a convenience store and a cell phone business, and also cash had been withdrawn at an ATM machine. All total, $554.08 had been taken.

The name of the woman was included in the report, but police have not yet filed any criminal charges against her. KJAS News has learned that she has a very lengthy criminal history with numerous theft and drug related charges.
