Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall confirmed on Friday that his department is operating at reduced force due to the fact that one of his officers has tested positive for Coronavirus and four others have had contact with that officer.

Hall said the officer who tested positive and four others who had been around him are off with pay.

Hall said that the situation has resulted in a shortage of five officers within the department, but so far the agency is operating as normal, answering calls, and patrolling the city.

Hall said that the other four officers in question have been tested for the virus and he is waiting on the results of those tests. Hall also said that he was moving forward with plans to test everyone in the department as a precaution.
