The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department and other emergency crews work frantically to free the driver from the car following the crash.

A local man is dead following a tragic accident that occurred shortly before 9:00 on Saturday evening on Edgewood Street on the east side of Jasper.

What happened is still under investigation, but officers believe the driver was headed north on Edgewood, when the Mazda sedan he was in for some unknown reason, left the road and crashed into a parked car at the home of William and Laura Scott at 203 Edgewood.

The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department used the hydraulic tool known as the "Jaws of LIfe" to free the driver from the wreckage and he was transported by Allegiance ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The victim was identified as Emlio Garcia, 23, of Jasper.

Laura Scott and her daughter said they had no idea what happened. They said they were inside when a they heard a sudden boom or thump and went outside to see that the car had crashed into their 2015 Dodge sedan.

Police believe Garcia had just left a home on the south end of Edgewood Street when the accident occurred.
