The Texas Department of Public Safety said two people died in a two vehicle auto accident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning just south of Center in nearby Shelby County.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the location about 7 miles south of Center on Highway 96 shortly after 2:00, when it was reported that a 2008 Pontiac passenger car, which was reported to have been traveling south had for some unknown reason crossed across the center line and struck a 2007 International truck tractor semi-trailer.

State Trooper David Hendry said the driver of the Pontiac, Jordan Shisler, 28, and a passenger in the car, Jasmin Cavazos, 20, both of Center, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Hendry said the driver of the truck, 30 year old Jasper Houston of Frierson, Louisiana was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Center where he was treated and later released.
