A Tyler County man is dead and his grandson is in jail accused of stabbing him with a knife following an incident that occurred over the weekend near Spurger.
Officers with the Tyler County Sheriff’s department in Woodville said their involvement in the case began shortly after 8:00 on Saturday evening, when they were called to home in reference to a stabbing. Deputies said they arrived to find that Ernest Sims, who had been stabbed with knife, had been taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Based on information obtained at the scene, the grandson, Robert Sims, 18 was taken into custody and taken to the Tyler County Jail where he was later charged with 1st Degree Murder. Bond on Robert Sims has been set at $200,000 by Tyler County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Jim Moore.
Officers believe the stabbing occurred when the grandfather tried to intervene in an argument or fight between his two grandsons. The grandfather reportedly broke up the fight and the suspect reportedly left, but came back a short time later with a knife and attacked the grandfather, resulting in stab wounds to his torso and neck.
Investigators believe alcohol might have been a factor in the incident and that the suspect, Robert Sims, might have been drunk when the stabbing occurred.
