Burkeville firefighters had their hands full dealing with a Friday afternoon wildfire. It happened shortly before 3:00 in pastureland on Highway 63, about 2 miles east of Burkville.

Fire Chief Charles Duckworth said someone lit a trash fire and then left it unattended.

Duckworth said the flames spread quickly across the dry, dead winter vegetation and firemen had to work fast to get an upper hand on it.

According to Duckworth, approximately 4 acres of pasture was scorched.
