The Newton County Sheriff’s Department says two Orange County residents have been charged in relation to numerous thefts at the far southern end of Toledo Bend Reservoir over the weekend. According to Chief Deputy Cynthia Hall, Zackery Alford and Gaven Butler, both 18 and both from Vidor, are currently jailed under a bond of $40,000.00 each.

Hall said the pair went on a stealing spree that included the burglary of several vehicles and boats. Hall said the two stole numerous high-dollar rods & reels, several wallets, three go-carts, two firearms and a knife, a small boat and boat motor, and other items.

Hall noted that a Mercury boat motor was stolen and then thrown into the lake next to a boat ramp, and they also stole three go-carts and discarded one in the lake. Both the boat motor and the go-cart were later recovered from the water.

Hall said the investigation into the crimes lead deputies to Alford and Butler, and also to the recovery of most of the stolen items, although one weapon and several rod & reels still remain missing.

According to Hall, each suspect was charged with two counts of class A misdemeanor theft, and one count of felony theft.
