Work crews have been laying down a new layer of asphalt on Main Street in Jasper, which is the latest phase of a downtown improvement project which also included placing overhead power and utility lines underground. The paving work began on Tuesday and by Wednesday afternoon it was just about wrapped up.
Jasper City Manager Denise Kelley says that if everything goes as planned, motorists may be able to drive on the new paving as early as Thursday.
Main Street has had a temporary layer of asphalt for the last several months. This phase of the project gives the thoroughfare complete paving from Highway 190 to Houston Street, and it also includes West Water Street.
