The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department is set to become officially active on Wednesday. More than a year of planning, recruiting, obtaining donations of equipment and funding, and specialized training of the volunteers will come to fruition when the department officially goes into service at 7:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, 911 Dispatchers at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department have been testing the department’s radio equipment over the last several days, and the department will have one last meeting on Tuesday evening.

The department will be headed up by Chief Jamie Gunter, who served for many years with the Jasper Fire Department.

The Beech Grove area has always been served by the Jasper Fire Department. However, due to the distance from Jasper, their responses are always lengthy.
