Low humidity and breezy conditions combined with dry winter vegetation has resulted in several grass and brush fires that have kept area fire departments busy in recent days across Jasper, Tyler, and Newton Counties.

One of which occurred shortly after 3:00 Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of Holmwood Drive. Jasper firefighters responded to that location when it was reported that a grass fire was out of hand and spreading towards a house.

Firemen arrived shortly thereafter and quickly tapped it out.

Although there are no burn bans in place, local firefighters are reminding citizens to be very careful with outdoor burning; never leave a controlled burn unattended, and always have a water source nearby.
