Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles on Friday afternoon released more information about a deadly stabbing that occurred shortly before the noon hour in the Gist Community in the far southwest corner of the county.

Rowles said deputies arrived at a residence on County Road 3144, also known as Old Champion Road, and found 37-year-old Keysha Lynn Hughes, of Mauriceville, dead from apparent stab wounds.

Rowles said it occurred as Hughes and the suspect, Laci Lynn Raymer, 36, were involved in some sort of argument.

According to Rowles, there was a witness at the scene and both the witness and Raymer were being questioned Friday afternoon, and he noted that Raymer, who was charged with murder was cooperating with the investigation.
