Local firemen believe a blaze that burned just over 5 acres of land on Sunday was intentionally set. However, who set the fire and why is still a mystery.

The volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department were dispatched to the Pear Tree Hunting Club on County Road 150, west of Jasper, shortly after 11:00 on Sunday morning when a woods fire was reported in the area and arrived to find the flames quickly spreading.

The Beech Grove Firemen immediately went to work battling the blaze and soon called for assistance from the Texas Forest Service and it took the combined efforts of both groups to finally bring the blaze under control.

Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said he believed the fire was a case of arson and word is that the incident is under investigation.
