A teenage girl escaped with what was said to have been non-life threatening injuries after a pickup truck that she was driving collided with an 18-wheeler on Wednesday afternoon. It happened shortly after 2:00 on U.S. Highway 96 North at Farm to Market Road 1007 in Brookeland.

60-year-old Frankie Putnam, of Lufkin, told KJAS News that he was driving northbound on Highway 96 in a Peterbilt truck, owned by MBE, Inc., of Lufkin, and he was pulling an empty chip trailer. Putnam said as he approached the intersection, a pickup truck eastbound on Farm to Market Road 1007 pulled out onto the highway. Putnam said he did everything he could to avoid a collision, but the trailer tires hit and rolled over the front of the pickup.

According to Sergeant Stephanie Davis of the Texas Department of Public Safety, 17-year-old Chelzee Koudelka, of Brookeland, was driving the 2004 Ford pickup truck.

Davis said Koudelka was transported by private-auto to a Lufkin hospital for treatment.
