Signups are underway for those seeking election, or re-election, in local political races and very early on we know that at least one incumbent will be facing a challenger.

According to City of Jasper Secretary Robbie Peek, Laura Golden has signed on to run for the Jasper City Council At-Large position, currently held by incumbent Mitch McMillon who is in his second term in office.

So far, according to Peek, McMillon has not signed up for re-election, but incumbent District 3 Councilwoman Hazel Johnson has. Johnson is also currently in her second term in office.

Meanwhile, the Jasper Independent School District Board of Trustees has three board members who are up for re-election this year. They are Stephanie Martindale, Steven Martinez, and Vickie Stewart.

According to Human Resources Coordinator Linda Coleman, thus far none of the incumbents have signed up for re-election, nor has there been anyone signing up to challenge them.

The deadline for those seeking election, or re-election, on either the Jasper City Council or the Jasper ISD Board is Friday, February 14th at 5:00 p.m.

Early voting for both elections will run from April 20th through April 28th and Election Day will be Saturday, May 2nd.
