The Texas Department of Public Safety has released updated information regarding an early Wednesday afternoon crash in San Augustine County involving a fully loaded log truck which left the driver with very serious injuries. It happened during the noon hour on County Road 447, also known as County Divide Road, about 2.5 miles south of Farm to Market Road 83 along the San Augustine-Sabine County line.
According to DPS Sergeant David Hendrey in Lufkin, a 1998 Kenworth was traveling northbound when, for an unknown reason, the driver crossed the southbound lane and went off the west side of the road, resulting in the big-rig turning over.
The Pineland Fire Department was called to the scene to rescue the trapped driver from the cab. He has been identified as 52-year-old Mark Jones, of Lufkin.
A medical helicopter landed at the scene and Jones was flown to the LSU Medical Center in Shreveport for emergency treatment.
At least one person was seriously injured in an early Wednesday afternoon accident in San Augustine County which involved an overturned log truck. It reportedly occurred on County Divide Road, which runs along the San Augustine/Sabine County line.
A medical helicopter landed at the scene to transport the injured person.
The log truck driver was reportedly trapped inside the cab of the truck until he could be extricated by the Pineland Fire Department, but it’s not yet clear if he was the person that was flown out.
Meanwhile, work crews were reportedly busy for some time cleaning up the scene.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant David Hendrey in Lufkin said that more details will be released when he receives the information from the investigating trooper.
