Firemen said no one was injured in a fire that broke out on Thursday evening at camper trailer at Martin Dies Jr. State Park near Dam B, west of Jasper.

Chief Jamie Gunter said the volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department were dispatched to the Walnut Ridge Unit of the park, which is located just off of Highway 190, shortly before 10:00, when it was reported that the trailer was on fire and arrived to find small fire in the interior and rear exterior wall of the camper.

According to Gunter, a park ranger was on the scene and had already brought the fire under control when firemen arrived. Gunter said that even though the fire was quickly extinguished, the trailer was severely damaged.

Gunter said it appeared that the blaze began in or around a refrigerator and that ironically, the owner of the camper, Tom Long of South Dakota told he and others that the refrigerator had stopped working and that he had traveled to Jasper to purchase an ice cooler when the fire broke out.
