Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said Wednesday that a traffic stop on Tuesday evening turned into a foot pursuit, and ended with arrests being made and also stolen property being recovered.
According to Newman, deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 96 north of Kirbyville. Newman said the driver bailed out and ran, but he was soon captured.
The sheriff said deputies talked to the suspect and soon connected the dots, learning that he and two other people were involved in several recent auto burglaries in the Buna, Kirbyville, and Jasper areas.
Newman said the two other suspects have now been arrested and deputies have recovered two stolen firearms, and it’s expected that more stolen property will soon be recovered.
The names of the suspects have not been released pending formal charges and arraignment.
