Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, which now offers college courses here in Jasper, has announced that Dr. Scott Gordon is the lone finalist for the President’s position. Gordon is a former Provost at Eastern Washington University, and he was one of four candidates who were interviewed for the job.
University officials say that Gordon is expected to be officially named the school’s ninth president in its nearly 100 year history by mid-August.
In addition to his tenure in Washington State, Gordon has also spent time in Indiana, Tennessee, and New York.
In May of this year, SFA along with the Lamar Institute of Technology entered into an agreement with the Jasper Independent School District and other area school districts to provide college courses at the Jasper Higher Education & Technology Center on Bulldog Avenue. The agreement came following the departure of Angelina College after they said that they did not have enough students enrolled in their courses.
SFA and LIT now offer courses for students from Jasper, Spurger, Woodville, Newton, Burkeville, and Kirbyville.
