Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said early Thursday morning that two women underwent emergency medical treatment following an incident where they nearly drowned near the Toledo Bend Dam.
Rowles said officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the Sam Forse Collins Park, just off of Recreational Road 255, shortly after 7:00 on Wednesday evening, when it was reported that the two had been pulled from the water and were unresponsive.
Rowles said one of the women were taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital and the other was flown by helicopter to Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria.
Rowles' office staff said Thursday afternoon that the women had been treated and released from hospital.
What happened is still not clear and nothing is known about the two women except that they are from Louisiana and Rowles and his deputies are still investigating the incident.
