Newton County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Cynthia Hall said Wednesday that a fugitive who fled from deputies a few weeks ago is still on the run.
The suspect, 39-year-old Michael Patrick Griffin, of Kirbyville, is accused of going on a two-week crime spree in both Beauregard Parish and Newton County, burglarizing multiple houses and also stealing a man’s truck and lowboy trailer in the DeRidder area.
Newton County deputies actually had the man in sight, but he managed to escape into a wooded area after they responded to a burglary in progress call on February 6th in the Sabine Sands Community, between Bon Wier and the Sabine River.
Deputies did, however, take into custody Griffin’s highly intoxicated girlfriend.
Of all the crimes Griffin is accused of committing, the strangest is undoubtedly a burglary described by Sheriff Billy Rowles in which he said that Griffin broke into a man’s home in Louisiana and stole all of his clothes. Rowles said the clothing was later recovered and the grateful man came to Newton to retrieve them.
Griffin is described as a white male who stands 5’11” and weighs only 110 pounds.
