The Jasper Police Department has a display case filled with counterfeit money in various denominations that they have collected over the years.

Jasper Police said on Thursday that they have seen a recent increase in the number of counterfeit money cases, and they’re urging store clerks to look carefully at bills.

There have been various denominations of fake money being passed in Jasper over the years, Lieutenant Garrett Foster says this time it’s counterfeit $100’s and $20’s that are cropping up.

According to numbers from the United States Department of the Treasury, there could be anywhere from $70 million to $200 million in counterfeit bills in circulation at any given time across the entire country.
