101221 Alligator Case (340).jpg

Word came out of the Golden Triangle on Wednesday that Gator Country owner Gary Saurage and his wife, Sharron, have added $1,000.00 to a reward being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in a disturbing case of animal cruelty here in Jasper County.

The reward now stands at $2,000.00 as Texas Parks & Wildlife game wardens and Jasper County deputies work to find out who cut the entire tail off of an alligator while it was alive, and left the animal to suffer. Game wardens say the large adult alligator was discovered, still alive, on Tuesday at the intersection of Farm to Market Roads 1747 & 2799 in the Dixie Community.

Game Warden Brooks Yeates says they have proof that it was alive because the person that discovered it used their cell phone to shoot video of the animal, but Yeates said it had died by the time game wardens arrived.

If you have any information about the crime, you’re asked to call Texas Parks & Wildlife at 1-800-792-GAME (4263) or the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department at 409-384-5417. You do not have to give your name.
