We’ve learned that the drowning victim in Lake Sam Rayburn on Thursday was former NFL football player Pete Lammons, an East Texas native who was fishing in Major League Fishing’s Toyota Tournament when the incident occurred.
Reportedly, Lammons was a co-angler on Thursday when he fell into the water from a stationary boat and drowned. It happened on the east side of the lake near San Augustine Park, and his body was recovered soon after by Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens.
Lammons was a native of Crockett and he played high school football in Jacksonville in the late 1950’s to early 60’s before moving on the University of Texas and finally as a tight end with the New York Jets and later with the Green Bay Packers beginning in the mid 60’s.
Peter Spencer Lammons, Jr. was 77-years-old.
