Port Arthur police officers at Church's Chicken where two armed robbery suspects were shot by an armed citizen on the night of Friday, October 1st, 2021.

Port Arthur Police say one armed robbery suspect is dead and another is undergoing treatment after both were shot by an armed citizen as they were trying to rob a restaurant on Friday night. Police say it happened shortly before 9:00 at the Church’s Chicken, located on Jefferson Drive.

Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso said both suspects, one of whom was believed to be a Louisiana resident, were armed with handguns during the stickup.

After they were shot, police say both fled the scene on foot. One was found a short time later and transported to a hospital where he died shortly after arrival. The other was found on the ground at a nearby apartment complex. He was also transported to a hospital where he was, at last word, still undergoing treatment.

The names of the suspects or the person who shot them have not been released.

Meanwhile, Port Arthur Police are still investigating a Thursday night armed robbery of a Jack in the Box. Police say they don’t know yet if it may have been the same suspects in the attempted robbery at Church’s Chicken.
