Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall said Thursday that officers have identified a suspect in a theft of water heaters and they’re now in the process of obtaining arrest warrants.

According to Hall, an investigation began on Wednesday when the suspect cashed in water heaters at Premier Recyclers on Highway 190 West. However, Hall said it was later learned that the water heaters had been stolen from the Myrtis Village Apartments complex on Myrtis Street.

Hall said when the man showed up again at the recycling business with another load of scrap metal on Thursday, the employees recognized him and called police.

According to Hall, the man was identified by officers and they are now in the process of obtaining a warrant.

The man’s name is expected to be released following arrest and arraignment.
