Jasper Police say so far there are no leads in a case involving a vehicle that crashed into an apartment and then the driver fled the scene. It happened shortly before 5:00 Sunday morning at Sweetbriar Apartments on Farm to Market Road 2800 in far northwest Jasper.

Paulette Collins, a Houston resident, had been visiting with her aunt who lives in the apartment, and she was sleeping on the living room couch with her 6-month-old baby.

Collins said the vehicle crashed into the wall next to her and her baby, and then the driver took off. Just prior to the incident, Collins said she could hear a man and woman arguing outside, and when she went outside following the crash, she saw broken glass on the ground.

Collins said despite numerous people being outside when it happened, everybody claimed that they saw nothing.

However, Colllins said the driver left behind two pieces of evidence; the bumper of the vehicle, which identified it as being a Jeep Laredo, and also a side mirror.

Lieutenant Garrett Foster said the case remains under investigation. If you have any information about the incident, contact Jasper Police at 409-384-3471. You do not have to give your name.
