The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is listing information about Coronavirus in all of their facilities across the state, and KJAS News has learned from the TDCJ website that there are currently 13 active cases of the virus at the Glen Ray Goodman unit on Highway 190, just east of Jasper.
The numbers say that 10 active cases are among the inmate population, while 3 are employees of the facility. The website also says there has been 15 recoveries, all of which were inmates.
According to the TDCJ website, the Goodman Unit is currently on lockdown status with 152 inmates under medical restriction, and 18 inmates in medical isolation.
Meanwhile, the nearby the Gib Lewis Unit in Tyler County, just east of Woodville, has recorded just 1 Coronavirus case, but that patient has recovered. The TDCJ website says no other prisoners are currently suspected of having the illness in that unit.
Across the state, TDCJ says that as of Thursday, June 25th, 2020, a total of 111,752 inmates have been tested for Coronavirus. There have been a total of 7,611 active cases, and 653 have recovered.
TDCJ says that a total of 105 inmates have died, 72 of which were presumed to have been due to Coronavirus, while the cause of death of 33 inmates is still pending.
