At least two people were injured in a weekend UTV accident near Kirbyville, and the Texas Department of Public Safety says a teenager operating the vehicle at an unsafe speed was the cause of the crash. It happened shortly before 6:00 Saturday evening about 6 miles southwest of Kirbyville.
Sergeant Stephanie Davis said 15-year-old Skyler Russell, of Silsbee, was driving the 2020 Polaris side-by-side southbound on County Road 701 near County Road 544 when the vehicle went off the road and landed in a ditch.
DPS said the teenager had seven passengers onboard, one of whom was a 10-year-old girl that was transported to an area hospital by private vehicle. Russell was treated at the scene for minor injuries, and there was no word on injuries for the remaining six passengers, ranging in age from 8 to 30.
