The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) website says that over the weekend, the Goodman prison unit east of Jasper had 198 inmates with active cases of coronavirus. That number was down 1 from 199 late last week. Meanwhile, the number of active cases among Goodman unit employees has risen from 22 last week to 24 over the weekend.
For several days last week the Goodman unit had the most active cases of the illness among inmates, but new numbers show that the Jasper facility now has the third most cases in the state.
Number one on that undesirable list is now the Stiles Unit in Jefferson County, which not only has the most inmates in the state with active cases, 672, but also the most employees with the illness, 82.
Number two for the most active cases among inmates is the Dominguez Unit west of San Antonio, where 468 inmates have the illness.
TDCJ is now reporting that the Lewis Unit east of Woodville has 1 inmate and 2 employees with active cases of coronavirus.
