As the family of Candi McKee prepares for her funeral service this weekend, friends and co-workers have organized a fundraiser to help the family with expenses.
The 43-year-old married mother from the Old Salem Community was murdered on Monday, March 4th just south of Kirbyville, and her body was recovered from the Sabine River near Burkeville later that same day. 55-year-old Kevin Byerly, of Newton, has been charged with McKee’s murder, and he remains in the Jasper County Jail under a $1 million dollar bond.
A hot-link and bake sale will be held on Saturday in front of the Family Dollar on Highway 96 in Kirbyville from 11:00 a.m. until sold out. All proceeds will be used to assist the McKee family with the funeral and other expenses.
