New numbers released early Wednesday evening by the Jasper-Newton County Public Health District show a big jump in active Coronavirus cases in both Jasper and Newton Counties.
Newton County’s numbers rose very quickly, from 9 on Friday to 11 on Monday to 13 on Tuesday, and then suddenly doubling to 26 on Wednesday.
This also moves Newton County into a statewide category in which Governor Greg Abbott has ordered that masks be worn at public places.
Here in Jasper County, our active cases also had a big leap, going from 39 on Tuesday to 63 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Sabine and Tyler Counties were holding steady, with Sabine County reporting 4 active cases and Tyler County with 17 active cases.
