Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins says a 36-year-old Beaumont man has been arrested after he showed up at the Lumberton Wal-Mart expecting to meet a 14-year-old boy following a sexually explicit online chat. However, police say it was actually another man posing as a child.
The suspect, Jeffrey Marcantel, turned himself in on Wednesday and Chief Sullins says he is being charged with online solicitation of a minor and tampering with evidence, both 3rd degree felonies. His bond was set at a combined total of $300,000.00.
The arrest followed a video posted Monday on the YouTube page of “NTB x”, which shows screen shots of what is allegedly the chat between Marcantel and what he thinks is a 14-year-old boy on the dating app “Grindr”. The two arrange a meeting inside the Lumberton WalMart. However, Marcantel is instead confronted by “NTB x” with a cell phone camera to capture his reaction.
