The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a Tuesday evening accident west of Jasper in which a sport utility vehicle collided with a boat trailer. It happened shortly before 7:00 on State Highway 63 West, between Farm to Market Road 1747 and the Angelina River.

55-year-old Leslie Hicks, a Silsbee resident, told KJAS Radio News that he was driving eastbound in his 2017 Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a Champion bass boat and trailer, when he saw a westbound SUV cross the center line and drift  into his lane. Hicks said he took evasive action and went about halfway off of the shoulder, but the SUV still struck his boat and trailer.

The SUV, a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, went back across the westbound lane and then off of the north side of the highway and collided with trees. Hicks' truck went off of the south side of the highway before coming to a stop.

Hicks was not injured, while the woman driving the Chevrolet, Cathy Dentremont of Colmesneil, who had no obvious injuries, was examined at the scene by an ambulance crew. Hicks told KJAS News that Dentremont told him that she frequently passed out.
