Jasper Police are investigating the discovery of the body of a young child in the room of a local motel.

Complete details are not available at this time. However, officers were apparently called to the Best Western Inn located in the 200 block of West Gibson Street shortly before 6:00 on Tuesday evening, when they received a tip concerning the case.

Even though it is not conclusive, Jasper Police Chief Gerald Hall said he and others believe the deceased to be a 6 year old boy who had been reported missing in the Houston Area late last week. Hall also said that a person had been detained. However, he did not elaborate any further.

Hall would not release further details, but said the body of the child was found in a tote bag located in a room on the west side of the motel complex. He also said there were indications were that the body had been there for some time.

KTRK in Houston is reporting that young Samuel Olson, a resident of the Cy-Fair Area, northwest of Houston had been reported missing by family members on Thursday. According to the report, the last time the child was seen by other than family members was on April 30th when he attended school.

Officers from both the Houston Police Department and the Texas Rangers were notified and worked with Jasper Police throughout the night processing the crime scene in hopes of uncovering additional information and evidence.

Chief Hall declined to comment on the cause of death.

KTRK in Houston is reporting that a suspect is being questioned about the death and word is that investigators there have confirmed the identity of the child.
