Two residents of Louisiana died in an auto accident that occurred shortly before 4:00 on Saturday afternoon near Burkeville, in nearby Newton County.
Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred on Highway 63, when a eastbound 2005 Mercury passenger vehicle attempted to pass another car, but met another vehicle almost head on and lost control, while trying to avoid it.
Officers said the Mercury went off the road into a ditch, struck a culvert and turned over.
The driver, Jaqcui Warner, 44 and her passenger, Gabriel Warner, 17, both of Leesville, were pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Greer. Two other passengers of the vehicle were taken to the hospital where they were at last word, still undergoing treatment.
