Two unidentified people were injured on Sunday when a boat exploded into flames on the Angelina River, west of Jasper.

Assistant Fire Chief Bill Lawrence of the Angelina River Fire Department said the incident occurred at the boat ramp, adjacent to the Highway 63 Bridge, shortly before noon.

Lawrence said he and others arrived to find the boat, which was completely in flames, floating near the west side of the river.

Witnesses at the scene said two men were cranking the inboard engine vessel when it suddenly burst into flames. They said that one of the men received severe injuries to both his face and arms.

Both men were reportedly taken by helicopter to a Beaumont Area hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
