U.S. Congressman Dr. Brian Babin (R-Woodville) was among those in the House of Representatives on Friday who voted to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of a series of videos that surfaced, allegedly showing employees of the organization bartering with undercover video producers who were posing as buyers of body parts from aborted babies.
Babin also made an impassioned plea for House members to vote in favor of the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which stipulates that emergency medical care will be provided to any baby that is born alive during a failed abortion procedure.
The second bill was designed to protect surviving fetuses, and stipulated that violators would be held accountable. Babin stressed that they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The House voted in favor of both bills, which would temporarily suspend the availability of funds to Planned Parenthood, or any of its affiliates, for one year during which an investigation of the abortion provider would be conducted.
However, Republicans say they realize that the bill has little, if any, chance of passing the Senate because Democrats hold enough votes to block it.
